13th Annual Community Gathering at Pamplin Grove Humboldt County, Ca
July 2, 3 & 4, 2016
Plan Your Fourth in the Heart of the Six! We are about Water. Here the ocean floor thrust up to form the rocky North Coast, it was carved again by water. Rivers shaped the land, people and culture here. Six of them: Smith, Klamath, Trinity, Mad, Eel and the Van Duzen. This last, the southern border of the ancestral Wiyot, is the very place where people, culture and water come together for renewal this coming July 2nd, 3rd and 4th.
Richard Salzman invites you and yours to the 13th annual Community Gathering and Cookout at Pamplin Grove on the Van Duzen River, the heart of the Six Rivers Nation. It has never been dammed and a few groves, like Pamplin, have never been logged.
Sharpen your wits, tune your instruments, pack your bag and bring a side dish for Sunday's potluck. Gate opens Saturday morning* to interesting people, the best swimming holes on the river, some of the world's tallest old growth redwoods and twenty some rustic camp sites around a roomy modern cook house near hot showers and a heroic sized sing-a-long style bonfire pit.
Richard calls folk together from far and wide to cross pollinate all manor of music, politics, humor, a year's worth of tales and always a little drama...you know, culture.
Even if you live in Humboldt it's not always easy to find the heart of the Six Rivers Nation. No worries. Richard will send a map with the combination to the locked gate. Pamplin Grove is all ours for the entire three-day weekend of the glorious 4th.
Car pools from the airport and loaner camping gear can be arranged for out-of-town guests. If you don't want to camp, there are motels in nearby Fortuna. You are welcome to stay the weekend or just drop in and enjoy the big potluck on Sunday! Richard springs for omnivorous grill items, you bring a side dish or dessert.
